I may have coffman do some work to my 57 top frame and they
indicated that they could also put on a new soft top while the frame was there
first did I hear then right can they take just my frame repair it and install a top if so has anyone ever had a top installed by them if so would it be correct as to material, type ect. and be of good quality or does nay one have other ideas or places

Although Coffman is one of the names mentioned during discussions about soft top frames I would be a bit skeptical about being able to install a top not on a car. One adjustment of a frame is the front header to the windshield frame. You may ask what he does in this instance. I guess he could have a jig made to install a frame on and then be able to mount the fabric top. I do remember seeing on this board that the factory did it the way you mention. However I would be a bit skeptical. Just my 2 cents.

Talk to coffman...I know that Dale Robertson at Al Knock's does the mounting on an actual car. What I hve seen, these work out fine.

ask them if they'll install a new top cover in the event that their assembly doesn't fit your car. sounds like a receipe for mal-fitting top. mike

If I decide to have my soft top frame restored rather then do it myself, who should I send it to? Any recommendations in or near St.Louis to install a soft top?

I met Ernie Coffman (I beleive his first name is Ernie if memory serves) in Knoxville this spring and he seems to be a stand up guy. He told me that if one of his tops doesn't fit correctly he would send someone to your home to correct. His products appear to be first rate.
