I purchased a vented locking gas cap for a C2 on Ebay awhile ago.It was advertisd as NOS and is in excellent condition. It has a cork gasket glued to the underside of cap with a brownish adhesive. Is this a correct type gasket?

Yes, I believe that the cork gasket versions were manufactured and sold prior to ABOUT 1969. After ABOUT 1969, the gaskets changed to neoprene.
Tha gaskets for the standard cap changed about the same time. Pre- ABOUT 1969 were a cellulose fibre type gasket. From about 1969 onward, the gaskets were neoprene.
However, all this is fairly moot. The locking gas caps were never factory-supplied with the cars, so the locking gas cap would be considered "incorrect" if they appear on a car being judged. I don't think that there would be any difference in the points loss if you have a 69 or later car with a locking cap and cork gasket or a 63-68 with a locking cap and neoprene gasket.
I don't recommend locking gas caps for use on the road. They tend to leak too much. The neoprene gasket seals best, but nowhere near as good as a standard cap. I use a locking gas cap ONLY when my car is parked in an area overnight that I consider has a good potential for vandalism. Now, how often do you think that happens? So, why do I have 6 of these things? That's a VERY good question. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C2 Locking Gas Cap
Thanx Joe, Peter, et al for the info. I knew I'd get the "straight skinny" on locking gas caps from this group. Too bad they leak, I'd like to use one on my '67 all the time. They're good for display at shows along with a shop manual, sales brochure, owner's manual, etc.
