    C2: Door Opener Control

I'm sure most are of the opinion that the the door inside opener control is different for 63-64 and 65-67. This has to do with the length of the short shaft, or stud, that the chrome door opener ball screws onto. The thin door trim of 63-64 would obviously use a control with a shorter shaft than that of the later control used with the new thicker trim. However, the new part with the longer shaft didn't actually enter production until the beginning of the 66 model year. The difference is obvious between the two different designs on 65 and 66-67. The chrome ball is VERY close to the escutcheon on 65 and there's at least an 1/8" or larger gap on 66-67. I'd like to have the dimensions for the shafts on both the early and late designs if anyone happens to have one of each.

I believe the part number was the same for 63-65 and changed for 66-67.

One more item to be judged for the 65 guys.

    Michael,

If it helps, I just measured the shaft on my 65 with an estimated build date of 5/13/65. The shaft measured 1 1/8" long.

Thanks Don. I just measured one on my 66 and the shaft is 1 1/4" to the tip of the threaded end. Looks like the difference is 1/8". I thought it was a little more than that but I suppose that 1/8" was enough to keep the ball from scraping on the excutcheon. It's certainly enough to be visible, even from ten feet away.
