    HI Phil, I know the earlier battery has the tar top look but they typically get a 30% deduct. So I guess there is not a "soft" tar top available today. Just the plastic tops. Thanks, John

      The "Battery MINDer" that I use specifically notes that it CAN be used with maintenance free and/or gel batteries.

      I have not had a problem yet using my Battery MINDer on the maintenance free repro in my 72.

        The Gel Type battery is used extensively in the fire, security, and access control markets. All these products have a charging circuit to keep the backup battery (gel) up to voltage. If same technolgy (believe it is) then "battery minder" style should be fine.
