    C2:67 Maintenance Free Battery

Has anyone judged with one of those Delco Maintenance Free batteries from Restoration Battery? Wondering if you get any deduct on the battery for them.

They are pretty pricey, but I'm getting sick of the acid batteries boiling over and ruining the finish on the parts below and the frame.

    The only way to go

If your talking about the optium type or gel battery that restoration sells. They are the only way to go today, no point deduct, no battery charger,(cant use them with these batteries) no corroded battery cables, much easier to change out, great cranking power esp on FIs and big blocks. I switch the battery switch off, car sitting six months starts right up, they say you can leave the battery disconnected for a year and the will start, I believe it. I got all mine from Tom at 513 574 4481 great service they date them also! Phil 8063

        Re: C2:67 Maintenance Free Battery

        Jerry,

I would agree with Phil - maintenance free is the way to go. I purchased one for my 66 from Antique Auto Battery 800-426-7580 and have been very happy. If I recall, they were just a little less expensive than Restoration Battery and they date for free. Not cheap, but worth it.

        Have fun,

Tom Kobman or Restoration Battery is an old NCRS member from way back and part of the "family". Highly recommend dealing with Tom even if it's a few pennies more. Service you will get and he's a first class man.

What would be the correct time lag

Thanks for your advice Phil. Think I'll give my 67, a 39 year birthday present(and 40 points). What would be the correct date on the battery for a June 29, 67 assembly, June 26, 67 engine stamping.

Re: What would be the correct time lag

I'd just make up a day in early June. Make sure it wasn't a weekend, but if there's a day of significance in your life in early June, pick that one.

I picked my grandfather's birthday in May.

Hi John for 66 and down they have the real deal tar top look but they are the gel type, for 67 they have the plastic R59 look but are still the gel type inside, the only way to tell is to take off a cap and look in side. Phil 8063

Sounds very nice, however, the properly functioning original type clock comes with a warning..."If the voltage source to the clock is too low, the clock may not rewind properly, and eventually burn out." Without the ability to use a trickle charger on the battery i am wondering, are those of you using these batteries using clocks with quartz movements or do you have some other solution for the original type clock movement?

Don't see that as a problem

except for long term storage with any type battery. If you disconnect the battery with an original clock, the clock just stops winding every 2 minutes or so. However, if you let it sit long term with the battery connected (any battery, especially lead acid type) the voltage will go down and the points which energize the magnet (which winds the clock) will burn or fuse at low voltage.

I have my original clock in my 67, but have had a cheap quartz in it for some years. I wouldn't think one would have to worry about burning the clock, if one drove the car regularly. I worry more about the boiling over damage, the lead acid batteries do to the car.

Just wondering why one couldn't use a trickle charger with one of these gel batteries, isn't that what the alternator does.
