    '66 Code 450 Interior

I just got some new carpet from Al Knoch. I have a '66 with white seats, blue carpet and blue dash, interior code 450. All of the new carpet except the kick pads have a bright blue vinyl binding. The vinyl binding is brighter than the carpet. The kick pads have a dark blue vinyl binding which actually matches the carpet color. I spoke with Dale at Al Knoch and at this point he isn't sure which is correct, the kick pads or the carpet. I have to check with him again next week. Does anyone have a '66 code 450 interior that they believe is NCRS correct ? If so please check your carpet and let me know what yours looks like.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Steve----

Assuming carpet bindings are the same for '66 & 67, my original '67 carpet which was replaced when we restored the car had bindings slightly darker than the carpet, perhaps darkened with age. Carpet was medium blue, not the bright blue that was available as replacement from Al Knock back then. ACC was the only vendor who had the correct color carpet for my 450 interior, but I went with AL's carpet (wish it happened differently). So, from observation (I may still have the original carpet stored somewhere) medium blue carpet should have medium blue bindings.

      Kent,
Code 450 sure is confusing. I originally had bright blue carpet in it when I first restored it in '97. That was what Al Knoch said was correct at the time. The new carpet I just got from them is more of the Med-Blue which I believe is correct. Does your console color & seat belts match your dash pads ? My seat belts were done by Ssnakeoil and are a lighter more bright blue than med-blue but again Ssnakeoil claimed they are the correct color.
      Thanks,
      Steve

        Steve----

Code 450, white/blue interior for 1967, included medium blue carpeting, medium blue console and instrument panel pads and, I believe, bright(er) blue seat belts. If you search the archives for '67 belt buckle discussion posted by John Hinkley, you will find a photo I posted of an original buckle with the bright blue belt. That belt is known to be original to my '67 and has probably never been cleaned.

When we speak about console color of medium blue, we had laquer mixed to match a code published, I believe, by NCRS as located in GM or Dupont documents. It resulted in a darker finish than was initially on the console and other interior parts of the same color. Therefore, we tinted it for a lighter shade. If your paint supplier has someone to mix a match an original interior piece, that's the best way to go.
