    71 side window problem

I've read through the chassis service manual and walked through all the adjustments. I still have a problem--it is this:
The window is adjusted fine--right height, angle, etc. When I roll it down, and then roll it back up, it binds in the front when it is about 3/4 of the way up. I can, at that point in time, take the entire window and it will slide back 1 1/2 to 2", which then allows it to roll up the rest of the way, and be positioned correctly.
Looking insed the door, I can't detect anything amiss--but something obviously is. I have no frame of reference other than the other door/window, but have not yet pulled that door panel to try to figure out the difference.
What am I not doing right or missing?
    Thanks for you help!

    Mike -

My only experience is with C2's, but I expect it is basically the same problem.

As you've discovered, the window actually slides from front to back as it goes up. This lateral movement is accomplished using a channel on the window that rides on rollers located on the lift mechanism. I expect that either 1) your rollers have stiffened or indeed stopped due to old grease that has hardened or 2) something has gotten into the channel and is restricting the movement of the rollers. My money is on hardened grease.

Either way, it means window crank mechanism removal and a thorough clean / re-grease.

    Good Luck!

I found out a bolt had loosened and fallen out of mine. Once I replaced it, problem solved.

But, I still had to take it all the way aprt to find this out.

On my 71 coupe, my widow started moving on me after several months of working fine after I reinstalled it. I found the problem was the roller was loose. After it was tightened up, works and stays in place.

          Patrick--
Thanks! You were right on! The bolt that holds the window to the roller that moves vertically through the front inner channel came apart and out of the window. Thanks for the help--before that, I didn't know what I was looking for, so I couldn't find it!

Don't feel bad. You wouldn't believe how much I replaced before I figured out that bolt in the bottom of the door actually belonged up above fastening two items together. It fixed my problem too.
