I have finally found one item on my car that is original, the correct dated AZ spare tire that looks to be original. The rim is painted a shade of black on both sides and looks like it has never had weights on it. The tire is not original. What color should the rim be and should it have weights on the back side or not at all

Re: Spare tire rim color 71
The spare tire rim should be the same color combo as the other 4 wheels on your car. The 71 rally wheel was painted argent silver on the outside, black semi-gloss on the inside. There should be over-spray from the outside silver on the inside black where the "rally holes" are located. If the wheel was ballanced there would be inside weights. Most dealers didn't ballance the spare wheel (to hard to remove), but many spares I've judged have weights (US manuf.weights, not japanese)

Re: Spare tire rim color 71
As a follow up post, my spare wheel on my '71 has the same color combo as the other 4, but has a casting mark, looks like a defect on the outer rim along with a "pink" dot underneath. This wheel is dated correctly and hasn't been painted. Is yours the same ?- Top

Re: Spare tire rim color 71
Paul, You may be refering to a glob of metal sometimes BB size that marks the light area of the wheel when ballanced. The red mark confirms this. This is the area on the rim that a weight is placed. My previous post notes the colors. Bob
