    63 Engine Codes

I am planning on restoring my 63 swc this fall. The car currently has a newer chevy 350 engine. I would like to put an "original type" motor in the car. I know that the engine casting number for 1963 is 3782870. How difficult is it to find this number/year of a motor, a 327. What else needs to be done regarding number matching. Also, does any one know of a source and approximately what I would have to pay for a rebuildable motor? I plan to keep the car for many, many years.

Also, I am missing the interior rear window corner moldings. Does any one know of a person/business that can make these and/or has the OEMs? What is fair market value for these pieces? Thank you for your help!!!

    Re: 63 Engine Codes

I know of a 63 Fuel Injected short block, rebuilt, that could possibly be bought for $2500.00.

It really depends on how "numbers matching" you want to get. A 63 vintage 327 engine (passenger car motor) is around $500 complete, needing a rebuild. A real 63 Corvette motor would be about $100 to $200 more in the same condition.

Keep in mind that there is only one correct engine for your car. That is the engine that has your serial number stamped on it. Have you looked for your original engine yet? I would start there. If you don't have any luck with that, then look at getting a "close" motor and possibly restamping it.

All of the above is strictly my opinion.

There's a rebuilt '63 Vette engine being offered on eBay (closes today) for $1800. Complete from oil pan to carb. No takers as yet
