Backup Light Resolution - Thanks to all

I would be remiss if I neglected to say thanks for all of the great information that I receive from this site. This is also a testament to the fact that it isn't always the simplest solution, especially when you come into the middle of someone elses problem that they couldn't figure out. If anyone is interested, here is the resolution for my backup light problem for my '66 390HP car:

Situation: Backup lights wouldn't work. Needed to get inspected for car show. Months of work about to come up short of the deadline because of a "simple" problem.

Frayed & broken wires on switch. Obvious fix: replace switch and good to go.
Replaced switch and installed exactly as last installed. Still won't work.
Looked at bulbs. Couldn't both be burned out, right? Pulled first one, could look though the hole and see gas tank. Wiring not connected. Connected it, still no go. Both bulbs fine.
Checked fuse. Appeared to be good, upon closer inspection, barely toasted. Replaced. Backup lights finally work, but stay on constantly. Partial celebration ensues, but premature.
Checked switch. Flipped it over, guessing it could be upside down becuase last guy installed old worn out switch incorrectly. Bingo. It works correctly, but find out when I get back in car, there's still a bit of a glitch, (they stay on in neutral and first) and it needs to be adjusted. Get back upnder car and fine tune position and it finally works perfectly. I shed a small tear, tell the wife of my success, perserverance (not to mention brilliance). She says "That's nice, dear." Nothing like the support of a good woman.
The inspection goes well as does the car show yesterday.
I love these cars! I hope a few out there can relate to this.

    Thanks again to all,
    Mark
