Joe Jucia or Terry McManmon 70 Owners Manuals

Hi I was looking through the new 70 / 72 judging manual for a part number and number of editions for 70 as I have a very late car, (416717). I do have an owners manual without the Corvette News card (without Reprinted with permission of GM) possibly send by GM to second owner with loss of original manual or a reprint without the reprinted with permission of GM line. It is a 1st Edition, January 1970 Part number 3970667. I was also informed of another manual for 70 which is 1st edition, January with the part number of 3970666. Which is correct? Oh yes the 666 manual has a Corvette News card.

Think you'll find 'correct' to be a gossamer concept when it comes to most glove box literature edition/revision levels. Factory was not known to treat literature on FIFO/LIFO basis, UNLESS there were obvious errors creating booklet recall situation. Obviously, a car built 'before' the effective date of a given revision/edition level is pretty rare... But, with a late build car, I'll bet you judges will routinely accept either book in your car.

      Zachary,

Best I could do is look in my car, but it is early car #2161, so will not provide much help to you. I do recall the printed part number is crossed out and overwritten by hand. Not sure just what that means, but I sent in the Corvette News card, so I know it is real.

Let me know if you want me to look.

As a practical matter Jack has hit the judging nail on the head. Reba Whittington might have something to add based on her experience judging interiors.

When judged with the 667 manual, without card, without reprinted with permission by GM, I am told this is a reprint. Even though the way I'm told you can really tell a reprint is by the pictures in it, reprints are fuzzy. This manual has very crisp pictures as compared to an original. So basically what I'm trying to get to is which manual can be judged with my car correctly without getting a deduction.

My '70 (#8998) came from the original owner with a 3970666 first edition, Jan 1970 manual . It has the stub of the Corvette News card in place. I have several NOS 3970666 1st ed. manuals that contain the C.N. cards and several NOS 3970667s, also marked 1st ed. Jan. 1970, none of which have the C.N. card. FYI the 1970 A.I.M.calls for a "second edition" 3970666 by the end of production. I've been collecting owners manuals for a long time and I don't have one of those. I'd be interested to know if they exist.

I can't be of any assistance here. I don't really have any particular knowledge of 1970 owner's manual variations.

My 70 purchased from the original owner has a 666 first edition manual and my other 70 which is a 4 owner 46K mi car also has a 666 first edition manual. I have collected lots of owners manuals and all 70's are first editions in spite of the AIM. The 667 is a reissue and I believe was the over the counter version for those who needed a replacement
