    Re: C2 67 427 Overheating at idle

    Duke,
I was told by the machine shop that built the engine this cam was much stronger than stock. They were wrong,I agree with you I should of stayed stock!
So at this point I am trying to drive it this summer and change the cam this winter.

    Thanks for the advice Al

    Re: C2 67 427 Overheating at idle

Follow my advice on converting to full time vacuum advance and install the vacuum can I recommended. It should improve your situation, but in the long run you should go back to the OE cam. (The ONE MOD that really makes these engines sing is pocket ported heads.) If you go back to the OE cam you can convert to a 12" can (NAPA/Echlin VC1765) since it should pull about 14" at 900. The more aggressive 8" can might cause some transient detonation when you open the throttle, but if this doesn't happen, you can leave the 8" can installed.

I wish I had a nickle for every "machine shop guy" who recommended some wazoo aftermarket cam.

Outside of GM Powertrain and the other OEM engine guys, there are probably only a handful of guys who are qualified "engine system engineers". The only ones I know are John Hinckley and me, and we are always willing to advise.

It's the job of the "machine shop guy" to build the engine the way the engine system engineer specifies, and free engine system engineering advice is available on this board. I've never meet a "machine shop guy" who understood engine system engineering, especially "STREET" engine system engineering.

Sorry I got testy, but I've been through this deal a zillion times on this and other forums, and it just gets old.

    Duke
