A friend of mine has a 90's C4. One headlight only opens halfway if the engine is running. If he turns them on first, before starting the engine, they both open all the way. If he shuts off the headlights while the engine is running and then turns them back on, one headlight again only opens halfway. Any ideas as to what might be the cause, or where to look first? Thanks guys. I've never owned a C4 or worked on one.

Re: C4 pop up headlight question
Clare engine running should make no difference on a 90 since the headlights have electric motors to turn the gears that rotate the headlights up and down. The 90 model is different from my 85's, but still has gears that can break. I replaced the gears in one of my 85's headlights years ago and the same headlight is not functioning 100% like it should. Replacement gears are available in plastic and metal for the 85. I bought the plastic gears, but will go with the more expensive metal gears now. Easy to replace. Have you ran any exhaust through the manifolds yet?- Top

Re: C4 pop up headlight question
Thanks for the info Jim. I stumbled into an online article from one of the Corvette mags archived at Zip. The subject car had bad bushings (gears) which they said could range from missing a few teeth to turning to dust. That's got to be it.
My resto project is moving along slowly, haven't fired the engine yet. Bought a new house this last Nov. and have a long list of honey do's. On the plus side, I moved my project home from my brother's which was about an hour away. Oraganizing the garage-shop now and will soon have the ability to work on it anytime I have an hour or two. Still a ways to go yet. Hope all is well with you.- Top
