    62 fusible link location

I want to install a (30 amp)fusible link on the 12 ga. black wire that connects to the starter. This may be a dumb question...but...couldn't I install the fuse link in this wire under the dash instead of at the starter? Does it make any difference where the link is located on this stretch of wire? It would be much easier to install and repair under the cluster. Any thoughts? Thanks, Steve

    Re: 62 fusible link location

The link is to protect the wire so generally it is located as near the power source as possible to prevent the power feed to the link from being damaged. Also, fusible links get hot as a part of their function and are thus usually placed in open relatively well ventilated areas, like the engine compartment.
