$200,000 seems a bit high unless it's your dream car.
I ran in to one of the Corvette magazines at the book store last week with C-1 valuations. I don't remember the amount but the top valuation for 1954 was not over $100,000.
A quick check of Pro-Team (which I consider inflated prices and probably less quality than this car.) shows a price around $70,000.
Maybe at Barrett-Jackson you might get this price. -

Yea, big leak stain underneith makes you wonder. Since most 54's were white, a nice Pennant Blue should get more $$ like that one did at BJ I think. But even that was a little much. Didn't they had a handfull of white ones go through the same weekend as the Pennant Blue and they all fetched in the $80K range?
The eBay add says Bloomington Gold, etc. Seller is testing the waters?Comment

Condition being constant, there were 300 53 models, and 700 55 models, while there were over 3000 54 models. The 53 was the first year and lowest production number, and the 55 was the second-lowest, with the additional attraction that it was the first year of the V8 engine.Comment

Dave..it is all about what makes your heart thump. I remember when 54's like 68's were step childs compared to 53's and 69's..but times have changed.
Seeing a spectacular Pennant Blue 54 after several creamy white ones..just might be what made two guys decide ..this is the car.
Get two guys bidding for the same car..and funny things happen ( ego and emotion ). It had nothing to do with the quantity of 53's or 55's made.
I will give you a tip..watch what the big Corvette re-sellers ..purchase the first day of any auction...and you witness experience...not emotion.Comment

Back in 72-74, there was
a 54 with aftermarket hardtop, original radio, and a 327/4-speed sitting outside the office of a junkyard I used to frequent. It was a little ratty, but was complete right down to the wheelcovers. As I recall, the "For Sale" on the windshield was priced at $200. It took them about two years to sell that car. Times certainly do change.
My Dad had a Pennant Blue '54. He sold it to use the cash as a down payment on his first house. Later, he bought my uncle's 55. They used to run around together, the yellow 55, the blue 54, a friend with a red 54, and another with a white 54. By all accounts, even in the late 50's, this group would stop traffic, literally.Comment
