Michael, can you post a picture of the carpet in front of the seat on the drivers side.

      Thanks

        Harry,

This isn't a pic of my car. These pic's came from John DeGregory so we'll have to ask John. My 63's are still stored in the frozen north.

We could also try to get Bob Jorjorian and Helene Zasadny to provide more shots of original carpet, if needed. Both have February cars. I'll ask.....

          Michael,

a picture of the insert heal pad area would be of great help, for i believe it is a rough cut and mabe not as described in the JG, but i may be wrong about this!! i will send you a couple of pics of what i have to compare with others.
it looks to me, that there is a want to know about this subject, woulden't you say?

Pics belong to Tom Groves not John DeG.

Scroll down to: Jim Lennartz 63 carpet cutout under seat before #13,500.
Then read Tom Groves offer to email anyone wanting pics on his original '63. I did so and asked Tom if he would mind if Michael posted them on the DB since I didn't know how.
I am just the middle man trying to learn the about the the proper way to finish the tool box area. It seems that paint is the way to go but I will wait for the answer. Thanks Tom for taking the time to send the photos and thanks Michael for taking the time to post them. We all apreciate it I'm sure.

                John,

i didn't mean to step on anyones toes with my posts. i had a very tough time trying to figure out the web server's way of getting pics posted. i now have a URL to post but only as a link just yet. still trying though. i have some additional pics on the tool box area, the earliest is #404 and it is painted black as is the interrior just like mine. one other is blue like the interior.

                  The little I can contribute.

I haven't studied this issue in general, but I did check the original factory carpet in '63 #7348. This Daytona Blue convertible has a tan leather interior.

Both fiberglass floor recesses under the seats are painted tan. The carpet around these recesses does NOT have any vinyl edge trim.

                    Jerry,

I believe you are correct, although I can't explain why some original carpet has the edge trim and others do not. Pic below from Bob Jorjorian is of a 12,xxx car and it is absolutely original carpet with the bead. Pretty sure my 19,7xx car did not have the bead but I'm not certain.

Still trying to get info from Helene Zasadny on her original carpet 8xxx car.

I see there's a part number change in the AIM on this piece of carpet dated early Dec 62. This change may not have actually shown up in production for weeks or months, depending on the reason for the change.
