I need to replace my two stainless steel mufflers. Can anyone suggest which type or where to get them? I would like a higher performance muffler so the 210 horses on my 1976 L-82 can breath easier. Thanks in advance!

Re: Stainless Muffler advice
By far the biggest restriction is the single catalyst, especially if it has the OE "bead bed" type. Aftermarket bolt-in replacement monolithic catalytic converters are inexpensive - about $125, lighter, less restrictive, and radiate less heat due to their lower surface area.
According to Dave McClellan (his book) the single bead bed catalyst added HALF AN ATMOSPHERE - that's over seven PSI - to exhaust back pressure. By comparison the ENTIRE C2 exhaust system generates about 3 psi on a true 350 gross HP small block, but this increases to over 5 psi on a SHP BB. More flow means more backpressure and the increase in backpressure is a function of the SQUARE of flow.

I think you're looking at the wrong end of the exhaust system. That big lump of cast iron way upstream could use help more than the mufflers.- Top
