I have a set of correct plug wires for my 67 S/B base engine to replace the good set on the car. Is there a trick to getting the plugs through the ignition shielding to the forward cylinders without removing everything. Is this one of those one hour jobs, that will likely take me all day?

Can the plug wires be fished through the lower shielding?

Take the V shaped lower shielding off. One 9/16 head bolt on the motor mount and one 7/16 head bolt on the other end. I usually spray some silicone on the distributor cap end of the wire and slide the boot off to make it easier to insert the wire through the motor mount. It is not an all day job.

The wires can't be fished thru the shielding because of a wire guide hidden at the low end of the shielding. There's probably an easier way, but I removed the starter to gain clearance. It took a good day (don't forget the nap).

The drivers side is not that bad. But the starter is in the way of the sheilding on the passengers side. I would think it's a few hours. Much easier if you have a lift. Jack stands make me nervous.

I finished putting new wires on my 71SB. Driver side shield comes off and that side is easy. Passenger side, starter and A/C compressor, well they make it tough! I undid the shield, loosened up the starter, put soap on the #2 and #4 wire to pull the boot off and started at the sparkplug wire and worked backwards. Ue your finger to push it into the wire clip if you have one. I had more trouble putting all the chrome shielding back together. Now I know why all the stuff is left off.

Hi Jerry:

I replaced the plug wires on my 67 SB without removing the V-shields. I used a small amount of WD-40 to help remove the rubber boots from the *distributor* end of the wires. Then I fished the front wires through the V-shields starting from the spark plugs. I used some fine steel wire as a leader, with one end of the wire wrapped around the boot-less end of the new spark plug wire and taped in place. Once the car was up on jack stands, it only took a couple hours to do the full set (the rear four wires are pretty easy).
