dot numbers on tires...how to read date code

I have the following dot numbers on my tires:CYN4 C2F6463, CYN4 C2F6463, CYN4 C2F6473, CYN4 C2F6245, CYN4 C2F6245. I am assuming there is a date code in there somewhere and am guessing it is the last 3 digets of each....say 4th week 6th month then the 3 on each of the 5 sets must be the year. Probably 1993 or 1983. But i don`t know if what i am guessing is true. Does anyone know how to interpret these numbers or have a web site you can refer me to? I have tries the www.dot.gov site but was not successful in getting to myu answer. thx, richard

That was a nice link and it gave me a good answer. Given that my car has been garage stored since 1991 and has only 1100 miles since that date, and given that i have driven more than 600 of those 1100 miles, and given the wear on the tires, i have to believe my tires are from 1983 (therefore 23 years old). Even dating back to 1983 the car has only added 3-4000 miles since then but this is consistent with the wear. Also, from what i know of the owner in the mid 1980`s the addition of tires at that time makes sence. Although the tires appear nice, especially the spare which looks like it has zero miles as it still has the nubbbins on it, it seems these are destined for the recycle yard immediately. Thanks for the tip and hope you enjoyed my "old" tire story.
