I have a 63 T-10 transmision that leaks in the front. I put a new gasket and retainer nut on the main drive gear. What wrong with it,guys?

Re: 63 T-10 front leak
The usual point of leakage is from the countershaft, which depends on an interference fit with the aluminum case to seal it. If the main drive is the point of leakage, then I would check the drainback hole for being plugged. The T-10 and muncie transmissions all depend on gravity and an assumption the owner will keep the lubricant level right at the minimum to prevent leakage. If the countershaft is leaking, the only real solution is to pull the trans apart, have the case bushed to size and reassemble.Bill Clupper #618- Top

I'll give you another solution. What the first poster said regarding the countershaft is correct. Alternately, if you are not up for pulling the whole thing apart, you can seal the countershaft end with Cold Weld. Take the tranny down, rough up the shaft end and surrounding area with 100 grit emery and apply enough Cold Weld to cover the shaft and the surrounding area. I did this to mine and it works fine. The area gets covered by the bell housing so you will not see it.- Top
