1996 Sun Visor Replacement

I know this is going to sound stupid coming from a guy who has restored multiple vettes (Maybe I should stick to the older ones). Has anyone ever taken off and replaced a sun visor in a 96 Vette? It looks fairly simple but there must be more to it since it will not simply screw in. The visor comes in contact with the windshield and thus will not complete the revolutions needed to screw it in. I am sure there is some easy explanation...HELP.

Take off the Targa top. You will see plastic trim plates on the top corners of the windshield trim. They are held in by two small screws (cannot remember if torx or phillips). When you remove the screws, carefully pop out the plastic plate. The front of the plate fits under the windshield header trim. You do not have to remove the header trim.

Once the plate is off, you will see a hex nut that is attached to the visor arm. The nut holds down a cup and a spring that is about 3/4 inch long.

Remember the visor electrical lead is still attached.

Slowly pull the visor down, into the driver compartment. You will see the electrical lead. It is a typical (pain in the butt) GM connector. Pry it apart and the visor is all yours.

When replacing the new visor, do not tighten the bolt holding the visor too tight or it will be hard to adjust when you are driving.

Be careful when installing the new visor and pushing the electrical lead into the hole to make sure it does not lay underneath the hole for the Targa top bolt.

Finally, I ordered mine from Zip products. Not too impressed with the quality or material. If they are still available, get the GM units for a little more.
