what is the best intake manifold gasket to use when replacing the intake manifold?? I have heard that Fel-pro (the brand I usually use) are too hard for this application and really do not create the proper seal to prevent oil vapor from getting into the intake runners .. any suggestions?? would the OEM style be best??

Terry and Dale-----
First thing: Joe Lucia is still out of town, so I'm just "peeking in" while I'm at a public computer for other reasons (I don't travel with a laptop and have NO plans to do so; while I'm away from home I want to be, pretty much, OFF-LINE). I will be out-of-town through July 1. I won't be answering any e-mails during this period, either, so if anyone e-mauls don't expect any response from me until after July 1.
Now, to this question: regardless of whether one is interested in strict originality, or not, the Paragon reproduction gaskets are the way to go. They are of the original embossed style. As clem mentioned, this is the type to use. The embossed, original style gaskets are not so easy to find anymore; most of the manufacturers have gone to alternate designs. You may be able to find an original style from Victor-Reinz or McCord, but you'll have to look for awhile.
But, if you go with the Paragon gaskets, you get the original type gaskets + original configuration for judging purposes. They aren't too expensive, either. What more could you ask for?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C3 intake gasket
Thanks for the update on your travel plans Joe.
The reproduction intake gasket was the direction I was heading. I should have known that if it was good enough for many millions (I think 59 million is the number) of small blocks over the years it would still be good enough.Terry- Top

Yes, the original style gaskets are the best all the way around as far as I'm concerned. The only problem with these gaskets? That's easy: it's cleaning off the gasket material when you remove the intake manifold. However, Permatex gasket remover will get the job done. It might take a few applications, though.
Right now, I'm in Rockford, IL and I'll be here through next Monday morning. Then, I fly to Washington, D.C. where I'll be attending the interment ceremony for Sara's mother at Arlington National Cemetery next Thursday. Then, I fly home the evening of July 1.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
