I am having trouble getting a correct conversion from lacquer to base clear. The paint shop can not find a corect mix so I can paint a spray card to match to base clear. Does anyone have a formula for a correct color of 60 honduras maroon to a base clear formula? I have the codes of origional lacquer, but a lot of shops no longer have the mixing formulas.

Re: Great site, Thanks Wayne,Missing?
Thanks Wayne, but that is my problem. The paint supply or any other supply house near me, no longer have the the formulas to mix the paint. What normally happens, you find the paint code for your car, give it to the mixing guy, he plugs it into the computor and out comes what amouts of pigment you mix to make certain colors. They have mixed me one formula, it is the wrong shade, so now other than expermitting, he doesn't know what to do. I am hoping another menber has already done the process and has a correct mixing formula. I plan to have the car judged so I want the correct shade of maroon. Thank you to anyone who can help.- Top

Re: 60 honduras maroon, paint mixing code?
Bill, I asked this same question a while back with no luck. You might try a supplier that carries Dupont. My DuPont guy says he can come up with a good bc/cc match but I still haven't committed.
There is a lot of color variation in honduras maroon cars.
I will probably keep the original paint as is on the underside of the trunk and rag top lid just for historic reasons even if it doesn't match whatever I put on it.
If I get the DuPont bc/cc mixed up I'll try to get the specific formula and share it with you. As always the autocolorlibrary is suggested as the place to start. PPG still sells lacquer and that mught be an alternative to BC/BC but still would involve a lot of trial and error. Lot of variables affect final color in the sun even with a correct formula.- Top

Thanks for the response Joe.
I want to have this car NCRS judged and want to get the shade correct. In base clear, even if the color is correct, the clear changes it. I still have the underside of the top, but I think it also looks different than the origional color. Bill- Top
