Found: Two disconnected Vac lines-Where do they go

I have a 1976 L-82 4 speed, and while examining the Air cleaner/Carb I found two disconnected vacume hoses.

    1) Comes off the back of the carb (firewall side) centered at the base. The hose is approx 8-10 inches long.

    2) Comes off the air cleaner base, Passanger side and runs forward, It too is approx 8-10 inches long.

Any help IDing these and where they go would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

    Thanks!

Is their a part on the underside of the air cleaner where two hoses should attach?

I believe there should be a vacuum sensor mounted to the bottom of the air cleaner on the passenger side - it has a hose to the rear of the carb base, and another one that goes forward to the vacuum motor on the air cleaner snout.

John you said it much better than I did. Was this sensor to open a door when the engine was warm.

          Lyle -

Yes - the sensor either allowed or blocked vacuum to the diaphragm on the snorkel based on air temp inside the air cleaner; if it was cold, the valve in the snorkel moved to only admit heated air from the tube to the muff on the exhaust manifold (for cold driveability and emissions), and if it was warm (or vacuum dropped out due to WOT), the valve in the snorkel moved to shut off the hot air and admit outside (engine comparment) air.
