side xhaust

I looked at a 64 300HP car. It has side exhuast with no rear outlets to indicate it was a rear exhaust. My Black Book indicates that side exhaust was not available in 1964. Is it possible that a later 64 could have had side exhaust from the factory?

Don't know the answer to your question, however the first thing a friend did to his newly acquired 66 Corvette convertible was install side exhaust. A lot of people like them. I know that if I would of kept my 64 it would have side exhaust. It did have a very nice sounding pair of glasspacks on it when purchased, not loud, just sounded good.

Even prior to '65 VIN ~10,000 is suspect

... as the option did not begin at the start of production. Other than the engine (castings and stampings), side exhaust (N14) seems to be the option (if present) that receives most scrutiny during judging, and the '65 JG & TIM lists 7 main indicators to aid in determining if the car was originally so-equipped.

can one get all those 7 main indicators, on a car that did not have them? and get that past NCRS? are do you guys catch them? just want to know,not that I would ever do that on a car.

Generally, they get caught as the "indicators" are things that are not all easily fixed, that said, given enough perseverence in the restoration process, it is possible that some get thru. partly it depends on the diligence and knowledge of the particular judging team assembled that day. '65 cars are especially suspect as the introduction was late in the year, and very few went on 300hp engines.

good luck fixing the A.O.Smith "indicator" if you have an AOS built car!

I'd call that one a show stopper . . . . .
