    Carlisle Virgin

okay, the fishing trip got cancelled and now i have the Carlisle weekend open. When they discover i own a mid year Corvette after the standard questions, invariably the question is have i been to Bloomington or Carlisle ? Missed Bloomington this year because it was Father's Day weekend. Now would like to go to Carlisle.

So, traveling from Indianapolis, suggestions on when to go where to go what to do. My intent will be to look for some replacement parts to continue my quest to Top Flight my car and just admire all the Corvettes I'm told will be in the same place !

Carlisle veterans, some thoughts and suggestions please

    Thanks in advance

Get there early (Thursday) to have the best shot at finding what you need if that is your primary goal. Call NOW to find and reserve a room. Most will probably be taken but you may get lucky with a cancellation. Check Carlisle website for details. It is a great event and a bit overwhelming. Hard to see it all in just a weekend. So many Corvettes. Carlisle itself is a fun little town and some great eating and drinking spots. The drive thru Pennsylvania is beautiful.

"The drive thru Pennsylvania is beautiful."

That's an understatement. It's what I miss most since I moved away 10 years ago.

Bring or drink lots of fluids. The usual weather is high 80s and HOT. Bring comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk miles. Shorts, t-shirts, sunglasses and a wide brimmed hat for me. I usually try to follow the same "routine" each year and start on one end and spend 2 days making my way around to the other end. You can see the site maps online to get an idea of the size of the location.

Don't underestimate the wear and tear on your feet! Ive been going to Corvette swaps everywhere since the 70's, and Carlisle is simply a big, tough field to cover. My feet break down by the end of the weekend from covering miles and miles. Great show.

If you have military service and access to base "hotels", Carlisle Barracks is very close. They don't take long range reservations, call as soon as they do and you might be lucky. I stayed twice and its worth the effort.
