58 Inner Fender Skirt and Trans Tunnel

    Hello all,

I am in the early stages of my resto and have found my inner fender skirts to be too far gone for me to consider repairing (people do strange things to their cars). I am looking for the left and right sider skirts, price is a major concern for me. I would prefer to buy some used, that need a little work on my part. Cash is not something I have a lot of right now. Does anyone know where or from whom I might be able to find what I'm looking for?

Like many old vets my trans tunnel access panel has been cut to fit God knows how many different kinds of shifters leaving me with a mess. The panel is basicly in good shape, except for the top. Does any one out there know of anyone who might be able to provide me with a template for the correct size openings? That would allow me to repair this existing panel.

I really appreciate any and all help.

    Thank you,

    Brian (In Florida)

    Brian,

You might try Paragon or Corvette Central for used inner fender skirts, but they will not be any bargain. Both outfits get BIG money for their stuff. Further, removing them without damage could get tricky. I replaced the right inner skirt ('58 also) with a repro from C.C. it fit pretty well but the surface finish was too glossy with respect to the original. It took quite a bit of sanding with 600 grit to get it to look right. Hope this helps.......Best regards from Connecticut, Mark

      Re: Trans Tunnel

Sorry, forgot about the trans tunnel question. The top has a rectangle cutout for the shifter and a box arrangement for the ash tray. Filling and cutting the hole for the shifter should be a piece of cake, but making the box for the ash tray will be a real challenge. Unfortunately mine is covered with carpet now, the interior is completed, so I can't help you with dimensions readly. Corvette Central sells them, I'm not sure what the cost is right now. Good Luck with this one....Mark
