    C3 Half Shafts

1969 C3 Stingray I have my body off and have slowly been rebuild from frame up its been over a year now and I can not remember which half shaft goes to which side. I have one that is thicker in diameter then the other one.

    Bryan,

    Are you sure?
There should not be any difference, and they should be interchangeable.

A size difference would suggest one has been replaced. I think later C3s had larger diameter half shafts.

Yes its about 1.5 inchs larger I am not sure but I think it was on the passenger side for a heaver torqe on traction. (but it is possible that side was replaced at some time before me.) Will this create and unbalanced effect.

It won't make any difference in operation, but is not 'correct' from a judging point of view. The smaller of the two sounds like an original shaft and the larger a later model service replacement.

          Mike and Bryan-----

Yes, the smaller 2-1/2" OD shaft is a 63-74 style shaft. The larger is a 75-82 shaft which also became the SERVICE replacement for earlier after about 1977. They are functionally equivalent but, obviously, not the same appearance-wise.

              Hi Bryan,

I've got the same problem on my 69 convertible (VIN ...12048).
The left halfshaft is thicker than the right one.
Was wondering about it some years ago.
