    Sidepipes value

    Hi again,
I have decided to switch my 64 from sidepipes to original rear exhaust. Does anyone have any idea of what the sidepipes are worth? They are in great condition and would include the pipes, cover and trim. Thanks

    Charles,

I too switched my 66 back to standard exhaust from the side pipes that it had when I bought it. You should be able to get more than enough to pay for the switch out. New sets are going for about 1,700 complete, so my guess would be that you could get +/- 1,100 depending on condition etc. If you've joined the NCRS, you could place an ad in the Driveline for free and see what happens. BTW, I'm really glad I did it. I can hear myself think and my wife will ride with me now! Try Allens exhaust for the new set. They have an ad in the Driveline and are on line - good company.

    Regards,
    Rob

There's no limit if you put them on Ebay....one of the things I enjoy most about my '66 small block roadster is how nice and quiet it is with the under-car exhaust, compared to my '67 big block side pipe car...guess it depends how long and often you drive your car...I drive mine daily and appreciate the lack of noise.

Yea, the car shakes the house when I start it. I am trying to get the car back to as close to stock as possible. Several NCRS forum guys are interested in them but I didnt know what a fair price is. According to Rob they are worth about $1000. It seems as though it will be difficult to get the correct side trim for a 64 though. Thanks for all the input.

              Charles,

The side trim (rocker panels) you reference are availble as reproduction parts, but I'm told the fit isn't too good. Look for a set of good used originals or NOS (new old stock) if possible.

The brackets the rocker panels mount too will be modified on your car. They may have just been bend over, but likely they were cut off. They are availible also from the major vendors but if you are going to instal them correctly, the body needs to come off the frame. They weld to the bottom of the bird cage.

              good luck,
              tc
