    63/4 shock washers again..and again

I dug around in my hardward bin and found this. It measures 1.262 in diameter. Is this what we are calling a "correct" front shock washer for the 63 & 64 ?

    thanks,
    tc

Tracy, You have the correct configuration except for the indented hex. The OD is close to being correct. I believe the original is 1-3/16". I'd use those on the stabilizer bars and keep looking a little more for the shocks. There is a washer that's readily available on aftermarket shocks that looks just like yours except it is much wider. It covers up all the rubber bushing just like the '65-82 where as the '63-64 leaves some rubber exposed. Someone should make the correct washers but so far no cigar. John

      Tracy,

This is edited from my original post with incorrect picture of the first style washer (retainer) for early 63 car and now is correct and verified with a known original 63 and its original shocks and link bushings as it came from the factory. If you did down load a copy of the first post of pictures, please delete them and view the new pics as this is corrected for future reference use.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to clarify my mistake, as wrong information serves only to misguide people. FYI, part # for first type is 043468--retainer, and second type is 5544049--- retainer and still may be avaliable from the General.

I removed the related hwd from my '63 chassis to get pictures of the parts in question. for both first type and second type per AIM. Also a comparison to '65 and later style required for this application. View pictures via URL link below.

You're correct about the pix. Wish it was easier to post them here.

My confusion was about the early/late iterations. My 63 is late, a July 63 car, so I definitely need the "late" version.

            Thanks again. Chuck

If possible could you send me a copy of the pictures so I can save them and use this winter when doing the engine.
              send to akdselectman@hotmail.com

              Thanks

Alan, if you running windows, put the cursor on the picture, click the right mouse button. You should get a list of options. Select "SAVE AS" and give it a name and location, then save the picture.

Those photos are tagged for "no right-click allowed"; just print the image.

I had already saved them in "My Pictures" prior to my post using the right click. I just tried it again and saved them again?

                      Harry -

Yup, it's only the "full-size" images that can't be saved - the regular-size images save OK.

                          Jim,

Looks like the second design example is a fraction larger than the half dollar. Can you measure the diameter and tell me what it is?

                          thanks,

                            Tracy,
They are 1.244 OD,better yet, e-mail me your address to send 4 of them to you for your car. You then can locate the remainder needed to complete your resto!! I don't need this type anyway so why not put them to good use.
