    C-2 seat track repair

I've taken my '66 seats apart to repair the track assemblies. The seats would rock back and forth in the car. I replaced the track springs with springs I bought from ZIP which are the same size as the ones I took out but the seat still are sloppy and rock on the tracks. I'm now looking for larger Dia. springs to see if I can take up the slack in the tracks. Has anyone done this before ? Am I on the right TRACK :-))))

    Steve,

AFAIK, the seat track springs/rollers only come in one size. Possibly, if you try another vendor, like L.I. Corvette Supply, or Dr.Rebuild, their springs MIGHT be manufactured to different specs. I replaced mine when I restored my seats, but I had 1 or 2 broken ones. The new springs tightened things up nicely. Did you check to make sure that the seat track adjustment locks are engaging fully?

Yes, the locks are engaging. New springs are .210, I believe I need .240, I have some .250 and they seem too tight.

        Steve,

Are you able to order specific diameter roller springs? If so, let me know where from.

          Joe,
I just got done opening up the bushings that that the springs ride in so that a .250 OD. spring fits like the originals. Wow it really tightens things up. The track sides easily but firmly, no rock at all. I have not added any grease yet which will just make it smoother. The springs I got I believe I got at Lowes, Home Depot or True Value Hardware but I can't remember which one. I've tried so many I'll have to check them all. I need 6 more so tomorrow I'll hit the stores and let you know where and what the part number is.

            Found them :-)))
I got the springs at Lowes, they are located in the hardware section. They are made by Century Spring Corp., part # C157, 1/4"OD x3 1/4" long x .025 wire, untility extension spring. $3.50 per 2 pak.
            Hope this helps,
            Steve

The seats in my '65 also rock back and forth. Would anyone have a picture of just how many and where all the springs go on the seat frames? I am wondering if there are supposed to be more springs on my seats than what was there when I had them apart. Thanks.
