Does it make sense from a point deduction stand point to replace a set of B F Goodrich W/L tires with a set of wide oval repros. I am not sure if this makes economic sense. Jim

Re: 1971 Repro Tires
Jim,
Only you can make that determination. The high prices we sometimes pay for a few points is always nutty. Some folks are driven by perfection others just want the blue ribbon and purchase the things that will get them there quickest.

Re: 1971 Repro Tires
I found doing a "cost per point" analysis helps...This assumes tires aren't the only thing needed :-)
You could get the same points back on other, less expensive items.
Do you need tires, or just want the look?
I have Eagle GT II's on my '70 and have been told to expect a lot different road feel and manners if I switch to correct tires.
They change the entire look of the car. I will prob. replace with correct repros when tires are needed.- Top

Re: 1971 Repro Tires
Jim,
You'll find that period correct tires separate a "special" classic car from a run-of-the-mill piece. It changes the look of the car, and tends to attract discerning spectators who know that the best cars are usually wearing period correct shoes. My Corvette drives just fine with the bias ply "bicycle tires". I've probably just gotten used to it, but I don't ghymkhana the car, and only drive it about 1500 miles per year, or so.
Just my opinion, but if you drive your car more than 2000 miles a year or so, then you might consider modern radials.

Re: 1971 Repro Tires
I had a set of re-pops on for over twenty years. I should say sets. any way to answer you question about the wide oval tires, you put those on and you will lose just about the same as for BF goodrich in points. the reproduction tires from coker are not close to the OEM corvette tire. if you want those you will have to get them form Kelsey tire in a goodyear brand. 1-800-325-0091. he has the best reproduction on the market. if you want to have it in NCRS you will lose out with Coker tires in wide oval, now if you just want to use them for other shows they are a good tire. just not for a NCRS show car- Top

Re: 1971 Repro Tires
when you drive on the repops you will think a DRUNK is behind the wheel. on a black top road they will tug at all the groves in the road. now dont get me wrong if you dont drive that much an have a lot of real nice pavement they will ride ok. I just put a new set of tiger paw WS on my car and it is so much better now to drive, if I could just get that heat out of the cabin with that 454!- Top
