    '66 A/C Horn reinforcement

    Hello,

Was the horn reinforcement plate that is riveted to the passenger side inner fender installed before or after blackout?

    Thanks,

    Ian

      Ian,

In general all riveted plates/brackets were installed before any paint process.

        Mark,

        Thanks, I wasn't sure.

If I'm not mistaken weren't the inner fenders assembled seperately with the seals and brackets?

If it was done like this did they make up batches of inner fenders with the battery access doors and Horn mounting bracket for cars with C60. Just wondering how they would get the correct inner fenders for Big blocks or C60 cars during the assembly process.

        Thanks,

        Ian

          Ian -

The passenger side inner fenders were the same regardless of option conditions - if the car had A/C, the panel was drilled for the A/C horn bracket and it was riveted on the raw panel. The expansion tank bracket rivet holes were drilled in every panel by the supplier - if it was for a big-block car, the four holes were filled with a dab of bond.

The driver's side inner fender was also the same part from the supplier for all cars - on A/C cars, the plant cut out the area for the access panel and drilled the holes for the access panel fasteners.

The rubber seals were stapled to the inner fenders, holes were drilled and brackets riveted on, then the inner fenders were bonded to the upper surround in the off-line front clip bonding fixture based on the specs for each car, build-sequenced by the "body shop job number".
