    Re: C2 Differential Identification

I have heard about the 3-series and 4-series carriers being different with respect to their ability to accept very low ratio gears, but I do not know the details of the differences and I do not know if there is a strength difference.

If the experts on this board don't chime in here and answer your question, I suggest that you post a new question with the subject heading "difference between 3-series and 4-series carriers." That will be sure to get you some responses. I would like to learn more about this topic myself.

The "series" number for the Posi carrier relates to the lateral position of the plane of the surface of the flange on the carrier to which the ring gear attaches; that differs due to pinion gear diameter and ring gear thickness. Generally, ratios below 3.90 use a Series 3 carrier, and ratios above 3.90 use a Series 4 carrier.

The only difference between the BB and SB differential assemblies is the yokes, as outlined above; all other internal components are the same.
