Yes, good idea, will lubricate with machine oil. I do have some concern about that "screeching" noise when I first wiped it with WD-40. I,m now wondering if the WD-40 was acting as an conductor and connecting two surfaces together causing a fouled up signal and therefore the screech. I'm not sure how an antenna and radio signals work.
I'm new to this site, although I've been a NCRS since 1980 or so. Did not realize the profile was there, nor mine either. My cars:
85 - Bought from a friends original owner brother-in-law. He was buying a house and just learned his wife was about to have another baby. Since he felt insufficient room in the 85 for the 4 of them, he decided to sell the car and put the money towards the house. But, needed the money in three days. He returned to Chevy who offered him $18,000. He has paid $27,000 6 months prior and he became very tee'd off at their offer. He told his brother-in-law (my friend) that he would rather see a private party get the benefit of the $18K deal but needed the money in three days. Since I already had the 64 coupe and a 66 big block, his brother-in-law called me. At first I decided not to buy it. Already had two Corvettes - who needs 3? I was thinking of getting a Porshe. Next day happened to be in his neighborhood and just for the hell of it went to see the car. Looked great - took it for a ride - man this sucker's quick, smooth and I can idle in traffic on the Long Island Expressway without concern. At $18K, I'll buy it, run it for 6 months and sell for about $22-23K thereby making $4K or so profit. Well, that was 21 years ago. Love the car and cannot sell it. I
I thought the 85 would be more desirable than the 84 due to the TPI but perhaps it's too soon to tell. The 85 is much faster than the 84. I raced a friend's 84 and beat him considerably. Then we switched drivers and raced again to rule out driver skill. Again the 85 won. Although I'm a big mid-year fan, I think the C4 is a much better looking car.
I'm 63. Not yet retired. I'm an industrial designer with my own consulting business on Long Island.. I want to do one more mid year. Perhaps soon.
Wow, did I ramble on. Sorry!!
Keep in touch and thanks again.
