    C3 intake installation

Not to be stupid .. but I am installing a Paragon intake gasket on my 454 big block 71 CP .... the last time I did this I ended up with an oil vapor leak between 6&8 cycl's .... can someone help me with the best way to attach the gasket to the cyl head .. RTV, glue? nothing? ,, of course I followed the bolt tightening seq. to the letter .... so I am assuming that I did something wrong with the installation of the gasket itself

Most reliable way to seal the front and back ends of the lifter gallery, is to use red RTV in lieu of the rubber seals. Use red, hi tack gasket cement to hold the gaskets to the heads before installing the manifold.

I use Edelbrock "Gasgacinch" to tack the side gaskets to the heads before installing the intake; many other products (like Permatex "High-Tack") will do the same thing. Ditto on the RTV instead of end seals (I use Permatex Hi-Temp "Ultra-Copper" for that).

        John,

Just curious, Why do you prefer the copper over the black permatex for that application?

It's always looked to me like there was a alot of overlap between their Black, Blue and Copper products. Except that one is rated to a higher temp I've never been able to discern much of a difference based upon their product descriptions.

Probably because one tube goes a long way (I don't use it for anything else), and it's a pretty close match to Chevy Orange . Don't think it matters much which color product you use for that application as long as it's made by Permatex.

            Thanks.

In that case I'll stick with the black until the tube is used up.
