Problem is a 62 base engine automatic does not have a neutral safety switch that mounts to the transmission ear. This corvette was just "jumpered" to eliminate the switch. All the parts vendors have one for 61 and older. Have not been sucessful finding a used one. Can an earlier switch or even a 65-67 back-up switch be adapted to work? I have the ability to fabricate the unique mounting bracket if someone has a picture of what it should look like. I can also make the throw rod to actuate it. thank you for any help

Re: 62 neutral safety switch
I've been trying to find a switch for my 63 powerglide. They are very expensive if you can find them. No one makes a repo.
I try to never start the car in Neutral, I'm afraid I might be in gear and the car will take off.- Top

Re: 62 neutral safety switch
1962 was the first year for the new 2-speed aluminum case powerglide transmission, and the Corvette got an "air-cooled" version. The Neutral Saftey Switch that was used on this powerglide for the 1962 Corvette is unique to both this year and to this Corvette, there is no other application or year used for this switch that I am aware of. This Neutral Safety Switch is Delco Remy part number 1993566. This switch is still available, and NOS, if you look in the right spots or make the right calls. I just returned from Bloomington Gold where I saw two of these switches, both NOS, on separate vendor's tables. I left one of them there. Be prepared to pay in the neighborhood of $135 when you find one. Page B207 of the 1962 Corvette Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) will give you a pretty accurate representation of what this switch looks like (except the connector).
The rarer item that you mention is the Neutral Safety Switch Control Rod. I have never seen one of these for sale, either new or used, and many '62 powerglide owners seem have this rod either altered or missing. Two original 1962 Corvette application powerglides that I personally have are both missing this control rod, and it wasn't until a very trusting powerglide owner sent me his original unmolested control rod so I could take pictures, take measurements, and make diagrams, that I actually knew what it looked like. If you look again on page B207 of the AIM you will see a picture of a Neutral Safety Switch Control Rod. If anyone ever happens to actually see one that looks like this with an adjustable threaded swivel end please let me know, because it is my current belief this design never made it off paper and into production.
