    C2 Cooling fan, Air Conditioning

Have a question about the fan on my 64 air coupe. The judging manuel states part number 5853945, the corvette parts catalog has part number 3853943. The peoplle selling a 7 blade fan say that is no particuler fan. Thanks for any help Jerry 12294

    Jerry,

The parts book shows a part number 3789562 for 63 and 64 1st design. This is a five blade 18" dia fan assy. It also shows a 2nd design for 64 as part number 3853943, a 18" seven blade fan assy.

I don't have the aprox time the change occured in production but the AIM would show when the change occured, at least on paper. Most likely the actual change in production happened weeks or months later.

    I don't know what a 3853945 or 5853945 would be. Typo's, I suppose.

Jerry - What fan blade assembly do you have on the car now? Pete

Michael/Jerry - Most (if not all) 64-65 C60 equipped Corvettes I have seen have the 7-blade 18" dia fan blade assembly. 63 C60 Corvettes are rare enough that it's hard to determine what's what as far as the fan blade assemblies are concerned. The 5-blade 18" dia. fan (actually there are two different configurations made by 2 different suppliers, of course) is what one finds on sb C60 66s and 67s. Pete

Yes Peter, you are correct. The original 3789562 five blade that was used on 63 and early 64 was replaced with the 3853943 seven blade, most likely early in the 64 run. I don't have a 64 AIM so I don't know exactly when it was changed, on paper.

The 3853943 seven blade continued through 64, 65 and very early 66 production, finally being replaced, again, by the original five blade, 3789562 for the balance of 66 and all of 67.

One VERY original 63 AC coupe I had still had it's original 5 blade. (17307, the A/C NO3 car) Another, that a friend owned, 17,352, a very original car, at least mechanically, had it's original 5 blade. (the car was PINK but still reasonably complete under the hood) There are a few more that I can't remember the VIN's of but also pretty much complete and undisturbed mechanically. I believe the 5 blade is correct for 63 and early 64.

There were two different assy line part numbers but both parts were the same configuration. The 5 blade/7 blade fan for A/C cars can be very confusing, especially due to the fact that the original part number/config returned two model years after it was removed.

I don't think there's any mention of a part replacement/change for the 66 model year blade in the AIM but the 66 and 69 printing of the parts book lists 66 1st design as the 943 and 2nd design as the 562.
