Getting ready to remove engine and tranny from my 75.. Guess what i need to know is...is disconnecting the shifter linkage,speedo cable and mount all that really needs to be done with the tranny to remove it with the engine..Thanks

You may want to remove the driveshaft also. When you tip the engine/trans unit to remove it, nearly all of the grease in the trans will drain out unless it has been drained or the tailshaft plugged. Do not ask me how I know this. -

Remove the distributor too so you don't snap it off against the firewall if you haven't already done so.

If you are a neophyte at this, there is an excellent book out there called "How to Rebuild Your Small Block Chevy." This book gives lots of hints and techniques on everything from what to remove to avoid damage to your car, your engine, or your transmission, as has been suggested by others here. It also tells you how to index your distributor for reinstallation as well as the installation of the other components.
Don't be put off by the title, I have never rebuilt my engine myself (nor do I intend to), but I used the book as a guide to remove/reinstall the engine and tranny combo.
