Who was responsible for a BB in a Corvette?

And did they ever think you might have to change a fuel pump?

    Mike,

I was wondering the same thing last week when I changed the pump on my 66. Not a fun job! Actually, the replaced pump lasted 23 years, which is probably a lot longer than they expected the engine to survive. It became part of normal scheduled maintenance for early big block cars. Every year, when you replace the shattered short block, be sure to replace the fuel pump.

I lot of times well all the time to work on a BB is a pain. sure they were neat when I was 20 years younger, but a lot of times it is pure hell to do anything on it. been a lot of times I wish it was a small block.

If I had known you were changing one last week, you could have changed mine Friday. I think the darn block has grown in the last several years, because the last time I did one I swear I did it all but the lines from on top. This time, I had to be underneath for most of it.

I had forgotten how much "fun" that was. At least the AC compresor is off the car.

The other item in that same area that is fun is the upper a-arm.

Real easy to change the fuel pump if you just pull the body off the frame, temporarily.

If I owned a big block C3 with AC and it needed a fuel pump, it would be in someone elses shop, or in my driveway for sale, as is. Took a week just to talk myself into changing mine on the 66 BB without AC.

I'll be waiting for you to put AC on that '66.

I was thinking the same thing Friday.

With the compressor on, I used to change the first two plugs through the wheelwell. I think that is how I got to the pump back then, as I had to change a pump not long after getting it. However, that has been over 25 years ago and I have forgotten.

Friday I got a bit of a reminder, and thankfully, the compressor was off.

get a 1/4 drive ratchet, a 18" extension and a socket with u-joint. go thru the a-arm dust shield to remove the pair of hex-head fastners that attach the pump to the block.prevents further deterioration of those 60+ year old spinal columns. mike

                  Mike,

I'm not QUITE 60 yet. Just a young pup, still 59. And I'm not tellin when my b-day is, especially after all the razzing we gave the Duke last month when he turned 60. Paybacks are hell.

Nope. Duke is probably already planning revenge.

You ever tried to get to the spark plugs in

a 428CJ Mustang? The easiest way is to remove the connecting bolt on that side and jack the engine up a few inches!

The factory shop manual procedure for a V-8 in a first-generation Chevy II is to use a hole saw to cut two holes in the steel engine compartment side panel.

                            Sheesh! At least Sunbeam provided

a pre-punched hole with a rubber plug above the gas pedal for the #8 sparkplug in the Tiger.

I believe that was the procedure for Monza V-8's. First gen Chevy II V-8's are a piece of cake.
