Bloomington Gold Penalty Box (Silver Column)

    Hello:

I was at the Bloomington Gold Certification a couple of Sundays ago. I had a
very nice time. After looking at most of the cars I was just wondering if there
where any cars placed in the "penalty box" (Silver Column) due to trim
tags, paint, or engine pads? Bloomington Gold has posted the winners on their
web-site but very little else is known. I know there was a lot of NCRS people
there including judges. Just curious on the above.

    Thanks; Larry

There are some silver certified cars also listed on the results page for 2006. You can see them listed:

Did the LAST 67 CORVETTE, make gold?

Did the proteam last 67 make gold? They have stated publically that it has a restoration motor(restamp), it should not have done any better than silver?

        Bill,

I don't know if the "last 67" actually made gold (most likely did) but if the engine pad stamp is "undetectable", or done so accurately it can't be told from original, it has to pass. Anything that the owner, or anyone else, has to say about it has no affect on the actual judging. The item should be judged as it appears, not for what may or may not be known about it. It's the only fair way.

There were a few silvers and bronzes and a couple or so participation awards. So surmising from the list on their website, there were a few cars boxed and a few missed.

            Hello Again:

True there was silvers/bronzes on their web-site but they can be attained w/o
going into the penalty boxes. It could be just the condition of the car. I wonder if it is "classified information" and not released to the general public.

            Thanks Again; Larry

There is one Gold 1967 Terry Michaelis / Proteam listed. This might be it!

                Last 67 Restoration motor, Gold?

Who is able to restamp a motor, recieve Gold at bloomington and pass Al Grennings "Master Pad Library"?? Seriously are there people out there that can stamp a pad, with that criteria?

My car was right next to the "Last 67" and it did recieve a gold. I was talking to one of Terry Michalis' associates however and he jokingly asked if he could have the little round windshield sticker that Al Grenning places on OM cars.

                    Hey Steve,

I am very familiar with Al's work, but not with "OM". I'm getting pretty good with Corvette's version of alphabet soup, SWC, SBC, etc., but what does OM stand for?

                    Thanks,

Bill the state of the art of restamping is getting very good. The real tough item is the pad surface. But then again with enough money you can buy an unstamped block and have your numbers put on. There are several "artists" that have the correct characters and know all the little nuances.

I think that one of the favorite phrases at Bloomington was "non typical pad surface". I believe that equals the 38 points called out in the NCRS Judging Reference Manual.

No different than NCRS judging sheets and scores - they aren't released to anyone but the owner either.
