Better to re-repair or replace fender?

On my 1967 BB Convertable the rear fender was damaged and repaired many years ago. It appears to be the original fender, but was poorly repaired with a patch type repair. Should I attempt to redo the repair of the old fender at some point leaving the original bonding alone, or is it better from a Judging point of view to replace the entire fender?

since its a rather simple deal to remove the damaged and replace the rear quarter with a NOS one(get the dark grey panel), i'd go that route. mike

Truly, each situation is different. I can say this for sure. If the damage is minor and the original bonding seam is intact, I would not replace it.

I would sooner find donnor pieces of fiberglass and fuse it back in. Send me your email address and I will send you a picture of a repaired pannel. You can tell me if you can find the repair.

Seriously, if it is a nice car and only one panel bunged up. I would really try to fix it. If it was a poor repair, that goes in your favor. I have taken poor repairs and basicly pealed them off from the underside of panels.

Repairs around the fender lip are simple and easy to get great results. Just be patient, take your time and do it right. Glad to talk you through it. Send me some pictures of the wound if you can. Terry tfringo@aol.com

Things have to be pretty boogered up to not be able to fix it. They sell a section to repair the top of the fender lip. Something like that might work for you. If there is a hole, that is not that big a deal. Usually, you can use clamps and stuff on the fender lip which helps to make nice repairs. Take care, Terry
