    63 Shock Washers, Part 4?

Thought I had it nailed with the excellent pics posted till my bud, John DeGregory sent me a few pictures.

Dug through my pile of old stuff.

    Refer to the pic.

On the far left is a sway bar washer for comparison.

Next to it, is what is supposed to be the "second design" 63 shock washer.

Next to it, is one I have, which looks identical to the pic John sent me. Note there is not hex depression in the center.

AND, on the far right, is yet another I found in my pile, similar to the one next to it, but the hole is TOO large for a shock.

SO, what goes around, comes around again. Thoughts? TIA. Chuck

PS: There just has to be a way to post pictures easier on this site.

Here's a link to Jim Lennartz's pic posted earlier. Chuck

Dr.Chuck, What is the OD of the 3rd washer in you pic? The 4th is incorrect because of big hole. The 3rd one from the left looks nice. It compares to the pics I sent you from Jerry doesn't it? I had a hard time with Jim's photo because his second design appears to have a recessed hex. I never saw one like his first washer but that doesn't mean anything. I had a pair just like Jerry Bramlett's photos that I sent you and that's what we are using for the front shocks. Wish I had more for the stabilizer but I am driving my restorer crazy with all the '63 trivia so I will swap them out mnyself someday. Luckily he's one of my best friends.
I wish Peter Lindahl would send you all a photo of the key ring that was used to hold the two keys together on the '63 and other years from the factory. That will drive the boys crazy. But it's a fun thing sorta like the "green" washer fluid.
If we keep this up more guys will be turning their '63's into pickups besides the Alabama boy. John

It's 1 3/8 inch, John. It looks like the pic you sent me from Jerry B.

It's the same OD as the #2 in my pic, the one with the recessed hex.

            My head hurts.

Dr. Chuck, The other day I looked at the new foreign made Delco shocks with a stick on decal and was amazed that the top shock washer very closely resembled the old '63 washer. Michael Hanson pointed this out about 100 posts ago on shock washers. The OD was just a little fatter but if they were massaged a little they wouldn't be too far off and a lot better than the '65 to 82 style and they are readily available on many aftermarket shocks. They didn't even have the recessed hex in the center. I was thinking of gathering up a bunch and temporarily using them on the front stabilizers. The shocks come with two washers, a large OD one and a smaller OD for the top washer. Nothing is ever mentioned about the bottom washer and I don't think we want to start that discussion as life is getting shorter. John
