Guys, I've checked the archives and checked my CD-ROM and can not find any reference on the proper method to replace the gear on a C-1 window regulator. Can anyone who has replaced one give me some pointers on how to remove and replace the rivet and riveted shaft? Thanks, John Mc Graw

Re: Window Regulator Repair
John, Are you replacing the small gear or the large flat gear? To replace either gear, you must 1st. remove the spring. BE CAREFULL! A lot of tension is on this spring. To replace the large flat gear, grab the tang with a large channel lock plier and remove from the tab. I then drilled the small rivet head off, but left the rest of the rivet intact, to be used later. Then on the large pivot pin I ground the peenned end off and remove the flat gear. Clean a lubricate all moving parts. You will notice a locating pin on the arm, put the gear back in place and clamp using the pin as a guide. I now welded the small rivet to the gear. Push the large pivot pin tight against the arm, and weld the end to the gear. I used a large vise grip, making sure the pin is tight against arm. It sounds like alot, but not that difficult if you take your time. Do one side at a time so you have a sample at all times. Joe- Top
