    '65 Glove Box Light

Can someone straighten me out about the glovebox switch/light. I must be missing something really simple, but I can't figure the thing out. I have the single hot black/orange wire that seems to hook to the only connector on the switch/light assembly, but the whole thing seems to be grounded to the glovebox frame through the hole the assembly fits through. What am I missing? Thanks.

Dave, correct. The ground is through the hole, to the frame, then the frame to the "Z" bar. If you painted the frame, just scratch some away on the back where it touches the "Z" bar as well as the screw holes. with good contact the light should work fine. Assuming the bulb is good.

That orange wire is always HOT with the battery connected. To ensure it's HOT use a meter between the wire and a good ground. Then test it with the switch attached to ground.

      Dave -

Only the front (bright metal bezel portion) of the switch makes ground to the edge of the hole the switch snaps into, when the door is open and the switch plunger is extended, closing the switch. When the door is closed and the plunger is depressed by the door, the switch goes to open.

You have to insert the (special) terminal on the end of the wire fully into the slot in the plastic switch barrel BEFORE installing the bulb, or the bulb will fall out. Once the terminal and bulb are installed, just push the switch into the hole and the tangs on the metal bezel will retain it in the hole.

        Thanks John,

With the help again, I have been directed that I need to purchase the slide-in connector for the hot wire. It looks as though they are available from the vendors. Thanks again.
