Rechroming exhaust tips...

My question is concerning rechroming a pair of '70 - '72 exhaust tips. Would it be to my benefit to sand as much of the rough rust surface off these tips before sending them in? Will the replaters prefer to have them as is? Who would you folks recomend I send these to?

Warren, my plater told me to deliver to him as is. They must chemically strip all old plating off prior to replating.

I had Areba Services restore a spare set for me. I spoke w/ Rick in detail about how I wanted the restoration done i.e hidden repairs and flash chrome etc. I was somewhat disappointed with the result. The repairs were not ground smooth and the chrome plating was too "good". My set had about 75% original chrome on them when I sent them to him. I think exhaust tips are difficult to properly restore so you should be careful.

I sent mine to Paul's in Evansville PA. He told me just send them as is and he would do the rest. They came back great. Only thing is he does very good work--better than GM. I don't know if he can or would do flash chrome, but mine were done 7 years ago and still look great.
