    '62 Replacement Carpet

Just received replacement carpet for my '62 red interior from a major supplier in Texas. Color appears to be blood red instead of bright red. Carpet is salt & pepper, but the weave is almost a commercial grade and not 1/4 to 3/8 inch in height as described in the technical information manual. Am I wrong in my concerns, or is something wrong with this carpet? Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

    John, My Guess, If It's...

Al Knock or Auto Custom Carpets (probably the same product), you're doing as good as you can at this point in time... Dennis

        Re: '62 Replacement Carpet

        John,

In 2004 at Carlisle I bought new carpet from Al Knock for my 1965. It is called "bright Blue" but when I got home and checked it with the carpet I bought from him in 1981 it was a completely different color, much lighter. I know that the carpet I bought from him in 1981 was the right color match as I was replacing the original and they matched perfectly. I called Al and talked to him about it and since I was about to go on an extended trip around the US with the Corvette in tow, he suggested I bring the carpet with me and he would replace it and install it at his factory in El Paso TX. Well when I got there they weren't even producing the right Bright Blue at all. They didn't even have a sample big enough to sent to their supplier, so he asked if he could cut a larger sample from the rear of my carpet which they could send to their supplier and have a new run produced. They did and almost a year later I received the New and improved version.......well it was the right color blue, but it had the much lighter blue edging that the first wrong color set had. They finally got it right the third time.
I know Al, Arturo, and Dale realized that they were producing the wrong color product and did the right thing in correcting it. It took some time, but the end results are correct. Rob Dame ( he was visiting me on his vacation ) helped me install it two weeks ago and it looks marrrrrrvless........thanks again Rob!

My point here is that Al and co will work with you if you think something is wrong-----give him a call.
