Mike, regarding the oil filters, if you still have two cases of them hang onto them, you will be able to name your price after 2008, when the 95 ZR's are able to be presented to NCRS. Rember there was only 6,339 of the ZR's built. From 90 to 91 the oil filter was a PF970, after that they went to the 970C and styed with that one all the way thru 1993. The last engine built at Mercury Marine was on November 21, 1993 @ 1:30PM. So all LT5 engines from 93 to 95 were built in 1993. For your info the serial number of the last engine was (0003) last four numbers. They built 200 engines to save as back up for possible replacement. 15 engines were for engeneering a test purposes from 90 to 93. If you would let me know of any other obscure ZR parts you have I would like to talk about traveling to where you are to photograph the item.

Joe,. Bingo, that is the 92-93 filter used until the last LT5 engine was built on Nov 21, 1993. All 93-95 LT5 motors were built in 1993. As I told Mike there was no change from 93 to 95 as all the motors were completed. Mercury marine kept some of the motors for their marine endevors and special boats were built using the LT5 motors. I don't know how many motors Mercury Marine was able to keep but I do know GM kept about 15 and Lotis got some for R and D.

HI Joe, The photo of the PF970C filter you posted is not "typical of most of the ones I've seen or owned in that the decal is upside down. Bubba must have been working on the line that day. AS you know the ZR1 filters are mounted upside down from norm and the label was readible right side up. I've never checked to see if this filter was used on other engines. John

              John-----

The PF970C has MANY other applications dating back to the 1981 model year. Most of these applications are Jeep and Chrysler Corporation vehicles. So, what was the first use of the PF970, the predecessor to the PF970C? 1981 Chevrolet Chevette with Izuzu diesel engine.

I don't think that any of these earlier applications were a black-painted filter, though. I think that they were all blue. I don't know how the black ones came into the SERVICE picture. Other than the PRODUCTION-only filters used during the 88-92 period on many GM engines, the only black AC oil filters that I know of were the PF970C and the AC "Ultraguard" synthetic media filters.
