    1964 Convertible top cost

    Hi,

What can I expect to pay to have the convertible top fabric replaced, assuming the metal frame is in good condition?

Once the fabric has been replaced, is it difficult to get the top back on the car?

    Thank you,
    Brendan

Replacement soft tops run $200-300 depending on source and what you want (just the top kit, replace the underlying side panels as well, do you want the rear window dated to match your car?). Just about any local trim shop can install it for you or you can do it yourself (there are step by step videos available from the catalog houses).

Figure the labor rate should roughly equal the parts cost. Plus, there's no need to remove the soft top frame. The job is done 'on car' including tearing out the existing fabric and installing the replacement...

as Jack related, do not install the top on the bow assembly off the car. you gotta adjust the bow assembly to the windshield/door glass/top lid BEFORE installing the fabric.I've seen too many poor fit/paint scratches from the local trim shops. do it yourself. take your time and the effort is worth it. good luck, mike

Brendan check out the show dates for www.alknochinteriors.com. If you can attend one of the shows and if they are bringing a convertible top installer, prior to the show make an appointment and have one of their new tops put on your 64. They will have new tack strips and anything else that is needed for a first class installation. Al Knoch himself put one of his tops on my 1968 Corvette at a car show in Jackson, Mississippi on May 8, 1983 and it still looks great.
