C2 Bluewall or Whitewall Spare Tire

When the cars were delivered to the dealer from the factory,was the blue protective coating on the whitewall spare tire removed by the factory prior to shipping, or left on for the dealer to remove?

All five tires would have had the protective coating when delivered to the dealer. The coating was applied by the tire mfg before the tires were ever assembled to the wheels. Only the four tires on the ground had the coating removed by the dealer during pre delivery.

BTW, the coating for Firestone Deluxe Champions in 63-64, was green, not blue. I don't remember for sure but I believe the rest of the various tire mfg's used in 63-64 used blue.

I looked at a very original 65 Impala with 32K miles the other day and the spare tire still had a lot of green on it. Also the number 16 in white crayon FWIW Rob

No Garry not yet. I tried but we are 7Gs apart as of Monday.That's no hill for a climber I guess but I'm gonna wait near thr bottom Rob
